Hey, ill be writing in english from now on. To be honest, it just bores me that there are about 2-3 people within a range of say 300km around Nuremberg who shoot street/reportage/documentary/whatever one may call it what i’m doing. Im well aware that theres a distinct concentration of photographers in large cities, although i find it kinda weird that Vienna seems to be some sort of street-maniac-magnet. Over here, nothing, tough i’ve been out on the Nuremberg streets for a couple of years now. Oh yeah well, i once saw this guy with what i guess was a rangefinder, shooting not in that typical 45 degree tourist pose (“wow look at that amazing church!” – “better use the flash for some extra sharpness! (Not that i would know how to NOT use it. Ever.)”) but mostly horizontally which puts chances slightly higher that he was doing something like street. Yeah, once.
In terms of connecting with people, sharing experiences and thus getting to know different kinds of people and points of view and further on being able to reflect one’s own thoughts about the subject, this just sucks. Hard.
Well, enough of this weeping and whining, things are not that bad because at least there ARE (random) people about whom this entry mainly is about. Enjoy.
starting with trix 2+. new years
lines and curves
Outside, lots of smoke from firecrackers
Lots of work and the weather has been pretty bad since christmas. So i decided to make the most out of it and started shooting at the train station area after work.
refilling a drinks vending machine.
small laundry inside the train station
buying a palm tree #1
1.4 in the dark. the trained eye may notice a slight vignetting from the old summilux
angles, angles everywhere
Next roll, trix normal. I recently did some minor metering and dev adjustments, so no need for pushing trix at the station anymore.
looking over some old negs.
one week later
it’s hockey match day!
the weather still sucked
hum, i was a little too slow for this one. still like the matching lines
this old lady put our her money in super-slowmotion, the cashier girl was obviously pretty bugged. what a spectacle
rather annoying ladies, jumping out of the subway and starting to argue with me about god and stuff right away
girl checking arrivals. great light in the middle hall
as well as in the underground station, altough a little more light is needed, proven by wild lux-flares
finishing the roll
next roll of trix, 400 – 800, shot with the xa, tiny little helper. First few frames are still from last year. Here we visited the Neustadt christmas market
local blacksmith presenting some stuff
christmas present from a butcher somwhere outside Neustadt
so a couple of days before christmas my father thought it would be a great idea to walk on the iced frontyard, slipped and broke his fibula. we went to the hospital, lots of paperwork, lots of waiting. since i always have the little xa in my jacket, i took one frame for the album. end of story, he had to wear a leg splint for about 8 weeks
so we went skiing (of course i was snowboarding since im so much cooler) with fabian and christina in stubai. i took the xa with me on the slope and shot some frames
having a break
ok this one actually was overexposed very badly, but i liked it and so tried to recover some of the information in silverfast which worked out surprisingly well, regarding the (almost) black negative
promo stuff filmmaking at the rental store
what a view. probably the first picture i shot fully stopped down with the xa
a great day to go skiing, isn’t it?
back to the m6 which a also took with me but only shot some frames with on the side during the day
going for a walk
time for some more train station stuff
nice vintage-looking buggy
you can actually read the “wtf” in his expression. not much was going on so i looked for something interesting worth framing when this classical looking guy came along with some kind of frame or poster or something. thought it would make a nice scene with the contrasty tones and straight lines
that cap looks damn soft
having a nap
would you look at this awesome puppys xmas sweater!
at the tram station
i really cannot express how ugly i find those kinds of boots. it’s like kitchen gloves for your feet
a wild lux flare appears – it was already pretty dark, i like how she seemed to be the only one of the group to notice me
finishing the roll
so olga gave me a 30 euros fotomax gift coupon a while ago, which i of course invested in films. i got 2 rolls of hp5+ and 2 of delta 400. yep, 30 euros. but i really needed some film and did not have any rolls with me, so i just bought it. anyway, i decided to gave the hp5+ a try. still xtol, still non-pushed. car broke down
bike broke down
i picked olga up at the drug store. while waiting i saw these little buddies
making some advert layouts at work
pharmacist in nice afternoon light
lots of forms in here, rectangles and circles and lines and all kinds of stuff. what a neat backpack!
back at the tram station, looking for something going on
guys doing some film work outside
this guy was fiddling around on the vending machines door for at least 10 minutes. i’m not even sure if he actually was maintaining the machine or just trying to get some change
stopped by at the press shop
now that’s a nice pastime
it’s been a while since i visited my mother’s place. so we had some tea and talked about this and that, i took some trix frames of the studio with the rolleiflex. the light there is just marvellous
ink tube still
this may be my favorite place whenever i need new inspirations
for a walk, it’s the delta400′s turn
my favorite shot of her so far, i gave a print to my mother a week later
having some tea at eugens and tanjas place
a little help from a cars headlight
after work, i headed to the city hall for signing the petition for a referendum against tuition fees and wow, the place was crowded
more subway love
and more nice yet suspicious old ladies
suddenly…exhibition! right in the station’s middle hall. some very nice still and portrait shots
back to trix
lazy sunday, so we decided to hang out at a coffee house. they had a very nice collection of all kinds of bw prints
i just like this little alley and its light and tones. this couple just happened to pass by and gave this scene an even more classical look.
these “buses” are just awesome, i always imagine that somebody shot it with some sort of shrink gun
guys being all enthusiastic about getting photographed
that looks warm
saw this fellow with his dog and had to take a snap. funny how they actually both looked right at me
kids being kids, the shop lady was rather annoyed
every few days or so, another “shop” opens in this little cabin. It’s all about the marketing
working on my metering. 18% gray is not always 100% right
ektar sale at some drug stores, they sold them for 2,15 euros per roll instead of 4,60 or so. i bought 25 rolls in total in 4 different stores. So all that’s left to do is to hope for some sunny days to come. Next post will be full of colour frames. it is on!
